Maudi Gras Masks

This began when I went to New Orleans for Mardi Gras 1996. I made six masks for Mardi Gras, and a few more for gifts. I have pictures (thus far) for three of them, and they are presented here. All are made of paper mache, clay, cloth (natural and synthetic), leather, and feathers. All are cast to fit the wearer's face.

Green Man Mask of the Green Man. (From Celtic mythology?) A large mask, intended to invoke images of nature and faery. My favorite piece and fortunately one of the few I still possess. When I made the masks, I offered them to my friends at cost of materials. This was the only one not bought.

Green Man Another view of the Green Man mask.

Vampire The White Lace Vampire mask. (Her hair obscures the left side of the mask - it is symmetric.) I had all this stuff and ended up going very minimalist. White lace covering other white fabrics. I want to make another mask, also Gothic, to use up the rest of the "Goth Cloth"....

Harlequin This one is fun. Also simple, but it works wonderfully with the hat.
